Pelagic Fish Association admits to fish cartel in South Africa

( August 31, 2016, 16:14 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The South African Pelagic Fish Processors' Association, or SAFPPA, has settled a raw fish cartel probe in South Africa. SAFPPA faces a fine of 16,800 rand ($1,141), that is, eight percent of its annual sales. Members of SAFPPA fixed the price of raw pelagic fish and exchanged sensitive business information in meetings held in 1999 and 2010. The regulator has already reached settlements with Premier Foods and Saldanha Foods, and imposed fines  of 2.2 million and 4 million rand, respectively.The full text of the statement is below:...
