Penalties quintupled for UK online copyright breaches

( October 2, 2017, 09:52 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The UK's punishment for online copyright infringements has been updated, with such offenses now carrying a maximum sentence of 10 years, instead of two years. This change brings online copyright offenses into line with physical infringements. For a copyright violation to qualify as criminal, the offender must be found to know that the infringement would cause loss to the copyright owner, or expose the copyright owner to the risk of loss.
