EU open to international cooperation on green taxes, Gentiloni says

( April 20, 2021, 14:01 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The EU stands ready to work with international partners in multilateral groups such as the G20, G7 and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development when it comes to green taxation, the bloc’s tax chief Paolo Gentiloni told an online conference today. “Common approaches” should be explored to achieve a “maximum of coordination,” the commissioner said, as the EU is to propose a carbon levy at its borders to ditch polluting imports, as well as a review of its tax rules on energy products. Both proposals, which form part of the Green Deal program, are due for presentation in June. “Climate change is a global issue on which global action and global cooperation is crucial,” Gentiloni stressed. The full speech is attached. ...
