Altia-Arcus merger cleared with remedies in Sweden

( April 16, 2021, 07:35 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Finnish company Altia and Norwegian firm Arcus have received approval from Sweden's competition authority to merge, with the clearance conditional on divesting spirits brands such as Skåne Akvavit, Hallands Fläder and Dworek. In addition, the companies will either divest the cognac brand Grönstedts or enter into a sublicensing agreement for the cognac brand Braastad with an independent firm, the agency said. The commitments address concerns that the deal would create or strengthen a dominant position in the markets for the sale of spiced grain spirits, cognac and vodka or unflavored neutral grain spirits, the agency said.
