US Senator Rubio introduces bill to create security, censorship standards for Chinese, Russian apps

( October 29, 2020, 16:02 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: US Senator Marco Rubio introduced legislation that would establish data-protection and censorship-related standards and restrictions that would have to be met by "high-risk" foreign software, such as Chinese-owned TikTok and WeChat, to legally operate in the US. "We must establish a framework of standards that must be met before a high-risk, foreign-based app is allowed to operate on American telecommunications networks and devices," said the Florida Republican. The bill would define high-risk foreign software as any app owned by an entity based in China, Russia, Venezuela, Cuba, or a country designated as a state sponsor of terrorism.See statement below....
