Brazilian watchdog queries Coca-Cola, Petrópolis about Ambev-Brasil Kirin deal

( May 12, 2016, 22:01 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Brazil's antitrust agency asked rivals Coca-Cola and Petrópolis what their production capacity and effective production were in 2015 in southeast Brazil — where Ambev and Brasil Kirin overlap in the beer and soda markets. The agency is analyzing Ambev's planned acquisition of a beverage plant in Rio de Janeiro state from Brasil Kirin. Antitrust officials also want to know whether rivals’ production capacity in southeast Brazil could be used to produce different products, such as sodas and juices. The regulator also asked Brasil Kirin to submit data about the value of its plant in Rio de Janeiro, as well as documents showing to which companies it offered the opportunity to buy that plant before deciding that Ambev would be the acquirer. See CADE questionnaires attached (in Portuguese)....
