Japan's Metaps Payment hit with privacy commission's guidance to correct data security measures

( July 13, 2022, 09:59 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Japanese online payment company Metaps Payment today received guidance from the privacy commission to correct data security measures. The Tokyo-based company said in February that unauthorized access may have caused the data of roughly 460,000 credit cards to be leaked. The Personal Information Protection Commission said today that the company hasn’t examined its data inventories, nor inspected personal-data management, even though it handles the personal information of many consumers. The company has also failed to test its security alert system. Therefore, the Commission instructed the company to take proper data security measures to prevent a recurrence. The PPC’s guidance follows the industry ministry’s order, issued last month, to improve the management of credit card information. A statement in Japanese is attached....
