US auto trade group raises objection to Maine right-to-repair initiative with state lawmakers

( January 27, 2023, 18:13 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Alliance for Automotive Innovation, a lobby group for the US automotive sector, sent a letter to state lawmakers in Maine objecting to a recent initiative to enact a law by ballot that would require automakers to provide access to vehicle data to independent repair shops. The group accused right-to-repair advocates of “intentionally” going around the Maine Legislature and said the real purpose of the initiative is to gain “real-time access to vehicle systems to harvest a trove of private information – including vehicle location – for direct sales and marketing opportunities.”Letter is attached....
