Belgium targeted by EU Commission over sacking of data protection authority officials

The EU executive said today that it had sent a formal letter to the Belgian government for failing to fulfill its obligations under the General Data Protection Regulation and the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights. The Belgian Parliament decided to dismiss two senior officials, including the head of the watchdog, following a long-running dispute over independence. The officials cannot appeal the decisions, which the commission said today violates the GDPR and the right to a fair trial.The statement follows....
