Orange faces possible EUR85 million French privacy watchdog fine for cookie rule violation

By Matthew Newman ( October 15, 2024, 13:15 GMT | Insight) -- Orange faces a possible fine of up to 85 million euros ($92.8 million) for allegedly violating French rules on managing cookies that are installed on users' devices and placing ads in users' email boxes, MLex has learned. The penalty, if confirmed, would follow a campaign by the Commission Nationale de l'Informatique et des Libertés, or CNIL, to enforce national rules giving users the right to reject cookies as easily as accepting them and to require user consent before cookies are placed on their devices.Orange could be fined up to 85 million euros ($92.8 million) for alleged violations of French rules on managing cookies, MLex has learned....
