Openreach might see new UK fiber installation standards relaxed due to Covid-19

( October 23, 2020, 13:30 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Openreach, the BT-owned wholesale network provider for the UK, might see its Quality of Service standards on new installations and repairs relaxed due to the coronavirus pandemic, telecom regulator Ofcom said today. The watchdog has published revised proposals, which would give the company 12 days, up from 10, for installation appointments, with a further mid-year review of Openreach's QoS targets in 2021 as the ongoing impact of the public-health crisis on the fiber telecoms market becomes clearer. The suggestions are subject to public consultation until Dec. 4, with the final decision expected "before April," as part of a more-comprehensive market review statement.Statement follows.
