Hermès International exploited elite luxury handbag market, plaintiffs tell US court in second amended complaint

( October 14, 2024, 22:43 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary:  Plaintiffs filed a second amended US complaint accusing Hermès International of illegally tying the purchase of its Birkin bags to the purchase of other luxury clothing and accessory items. Based on publicly available data, Hermès’ Birkin bags constitute between 60 percent and 75 percent of the Elitist Luxury Handbag Market, the filing to the Northern District of California said. "The elitist luxury handbag market tends to be relatively inelastic. Luxury handbag buyers are typically less price-sensitive than consumers of ordinary goods ... Defendants have exploited the unique characteristics of the luxury handbag market," the second amended complaint said.See attached document...
