UK companies fined by privacy regulator for nearly 50,000 unsolicited marketing calls targeting elderly

( October 10, 2024, 13:58 GMT | Official Statement) -- Two UK companies, WerepairUK Ltd and Service Box Group Limited, were fined by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) for making nearly 50,000 unlawful marketing calls to individuals who had explicitly opted out of receiving marketing communications. The UK privacy regulator issued 120,000 pounds ($157,000) in fines for the two companies, which are said to have been targeting older people and those living with illnesses such as dementia.
