British Airways fined GBP20 million over GDPR violation, UK's highest to date

( October 16, 2020, 09:21 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: British Airways has been fined 20 million pounds by the UK data protection watchdog for violating the EU's General Data Protection Regulation. The airline failed to put appropriate security measures in place, leading to a data breach that affected more than 400,000 customers, the Information Commissioner's Office said in a statement today. While this is highest GDPR-related fine handed out in the UK to date, the amount has been substantially revised down from the 183 million pounds initially proposed by the ICO last year.
