Yorkshire Purchasing-Findel merger provisionally blocked by UK CMA

( October 16, 2020, 06:27 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Yorkshire Purchasing Organisation’s planned acquisition of Findel Education has been provisionally blocked by the UK Competition and Markets Authority, which has found the deal could leave schools worse off, and result in increased prices or reductions in service levels, quality and the range of products offered by the merged company. The CMA said that if the merger were to take place, the primary competitor to the merged entity would be RM Plc, a generalist UK-wide supplier, with more limited competition from a small number of regional generalist suppliers. It said that at this stage, its initial view is that prohibition of the merger is likely to be an effective remedy to its concerns. Interested parties have until Oct 30 to submit views on possible remedies to address the CMA’s concerns, which may include blocking the deal.The statement follows.
