Panasonic and Xiaomi hit the brakes on EU patent proceedings on first day of Unified Patent Court hearing

By Inbar Preiss and Giorgi Dvalishvili ( October 7, 2024, 14:33 GMT | Insight) -- After a brief recess, a four-member panel of the Unified Patent Court this morning granted a joint request by Panasonic and Xiaomi to stay proceedings in Mannheim in view of a UK Court of Appeal judgment last week in global litigation over Panasonic 4G standard essential patents, or SEPs.  The parties presented their request to pause action at the UPC approximately 40 minutes into the start of what was to be a three-day hearing.Japanese electronics manufacturer Panasonic and its Chinese rival Xiaomi agreed this morning that litigation proceedings at the Unified Patent Court’s Local Division in Mannheim should be paused in light of a UK Court of Appeal’s judgment last week....
