Australian court orders $13.7m cartel fine for Colgate

( April 28, 2016, 05:25 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Australian Federal Court has fined Colgate-Palmolive a total of A$18 million ($13.7 million) after it admitted to engaging in conduct that limited the supply and controlled the prices of laundry detergents. The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission, or ACCC, filed the case against Colgate, PZ Cussons Australia and Woolworths in December 2013, alleging that they had engaged in cartel conduct and entered into anticompetitive arrangements. The arrangements included Unilever Australia, which applied for immunity under the ACCC’s Immunity Policy for Cartel Conduct. The penalties — the third-largest the court has ordered for breaches of competition law — comprise A$12 million for the understanding to withhold supply and A$6 million for the information-sharing understanding. The case against Cussons and Woolworths is listed for hearing in June. The regulator's statement follows: ...
