Japan's use of facial recognition systems likely to be restricted to specific purposes

According to a draft report this week, specific reasons for the use of the cameras will have to be disclosed and it will no longer be sufficient for camera operators in public places to simply state that live cameras are being used to prevent crimes.  Stricter guidelines are on the way for the use of security cameras with facial recognition features in Japan, where the nation’s privacy commission is preparing an expert panel’s report on the rapid uptake of the technology....
