Samsung’s ‘inconsistent’ evidence fails to prove Philips’ role in cartel, court hears

By Mari Eccles ( April 27, 2016, 13:35 GMT | Insight) -- The European Commission erred in relying on “inconsistent and uncorroborated” evidence provided by Samsung Electronics when it found that Dutch rival Royal Philips had participated in an illegal cartel for smartcard chips, an EU court heard today. Philips was in the lower-tier General Court to fight a fine of 20.1 million euros, imposed by the commission for its role in a cartel for chips used to store information in mobile phones, passports and bank cards.The European Commission erred in relying on “inconsistent and uncorroborated” evidence provided by Samsung Electronics when it found that Dutch rival Royal Philips had participated in an illegal cartel for smartcard chips, an EU court heard today....
