City of Los Angeles, IBM settle over Weather Channel app privacy case

( August 14, 2020, 22:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The City of Los Angeles agreed to dismiss its lawsuit against The Weather Channel for allegedly misleading consumers over its smartphone app geolocation data collection practices. The Weather Channel, which is owned by IBM, agreed to change its location data collection disclosures, states a joint stipulation of settlement and dismissal with prejudice. An app prompt screen will state that device location data may be used to deliver ads. The order allows the City of Los Angeles to sue again should it determine that possible future changes to the app's privacy disclosures violate the California unfair competition statute.See document below....
