Thai critics say draft telecoms bill opens door to corruption

They said frequencies should be allocated only through auctions, but that the bill indicated that other methods could be employed, including awarding frequencies to bidders proposing certain state benefits. Scholars also feared that the NBTC would be stripped of its independence, as it would have to report to the IT ministry and the future National Digital Economy Commission. The bill is undergoing a second reading in the National Legislative Assembly, which has noted the concerns. A final reading is expected to be completed in two months.        ...
