Gaz de France’s commitments for Suez merger lifted by EU regulator

( June 16, 2022, 10:29 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The European Commission has lifted the remaining commitments that it offered Gaz de France -— now Engie — in 2006 to win approval for its acquisition of Suez. The commission cited changes in market conditions. To obtain clearance, Gaz de France agreed to build new gas-storage capacities at two sites — Etrez and Trois Fontaines — and to offer these capabilities to the market. In 2020 the commission lifted the commitments at the Etrez site, and following an investigation, it has also lifted them at Trois Fontaines. It said the commitment is no longer necessary to guarantee access to gas storage and to maintain market competition.Statement follows, in French....
