Meta Platforms Spanish data dominance lawsuit to stay in Madrid, court rules

( April 8, 2024, 15:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Meta Platforms has failed to have a Spanish competition lawsuit related to the use of personal data blocked on jurisdiction grounds. The 15th Commercial Court of Madrid denied Meta’s request to have the case thrown out on the basis that it should only be liable in Ireland, where it has its European headquarters, the Asociación de Medios de Información, or AMI, said in a statement today. AMI filed the lawsuit on behalf of 83 Spanish digital news media organizations in December. It claims the income Meta has received from its advertising is “illegitimate” because it did not obtain consent for users' data for targeted advertising.The statement follows in Spanish....
