China launches investigation into Canadian surtaxes on EVs, other products

( September 26, 2024, 05:21 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: China has initiated an anti-discrimination investigation into Canada's planned 100 percent surtaxes on imports of Chinese electric vehicles and 25 percent on steel and aluminum products, the Ministry of Commerce announced today. The investigation will also examine Canadian restrictions on the list of countries entitled to subsidies for clean-energy vehicles. Potential surtaxes on imports of Chinese batteries, solar products, semiconductors and key minerals that the Canadian government intends to impose will also be subject to the investigation.
