China stands in support of EV companies' legitimate rights, denies EU overcapacity claims

( April 8, 2024, 03:57 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Chinese electric-vehicle manufacturers operating in Europe, including Geely Auto, SAIC Motor, BYD and CATL, yesterday attended a roundtable presided over by Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao, during which Wang said the Chinese government will support Chinese businesses in defending their legitimate rights and interests, according to a statement published by the Ministry of Commerce. Chinese EV makers didn’t gain competitive advantages from subsidies; instead, their rapid development should be attributed to continuous technological innovation, well-developed production-supply chains, as well as sufficient competition, Wang said. It is utterly baseless for the US and European countries to blame Chinese EV makers for overcapacity, Wang added.
