Higher nuclear power capacity needed to create more jobs and revenue by 2050, Foratom says

( April 25, 2019, 10:26 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Foratom, the European atomic-energy lobby, is calling for nuclear to continue covering 25 percent of the electricity mix in 2050, instead of the 15 percent assumed by the EU in its long-term strategy for 2050. “Not only will this enable the EU to achieve its carbon-free targets, while ensuring it has access to the energy it needs when it needs it, it will also provide a significant contribution in terms of economic growth and job creation,” said Director General Yves Desbazeille. According to a new study by the consultancy Deloitte, 150 gigawatts of nuclear installed capacity by 2050 would support more than 1.3 million full-time jobs and 576 billion euros of annual GDP.Full statement follows.
