Lithuanian president tells Ukraine leader her country, EU back independence of anticorruption agencies

( December 8, 2017, 19:27 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary:  Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė told Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko that politicians should not influence the work of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine. "Both the European Union and Lithuania support these reforms aimed at combating corruption. These reforms should be consistent and open, ensuring full independence of agencies from political influence," she said. Poroshenko said he would not interfere with anticorruption agencies, adding that it was his administration that had established the agencies in the first place.
