Rewe, Coop have until Aug. 16 to comment on draft German merger decision

( July 25, 2016, 14:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Germany’s competition authority has sent a draft decision to Rewe, Coop, Edeka headquarters, Edeka Nord and Tengelmann, as well as the German Brands Association, as part of Rewe’s plans to take over Coop’s supermarket business. The watchdog’s preliminary conclusions are that the deal would restrict competition in eight regional markets as well as in two districts of Hamburg. The parties have already announced remedies likely to remove antitrust concerns and which the regulator will scrutinize during the proceedings, the Bundeskartellamt said.
