Lotte founder’s daughter loses bribery case appeal

In September 2014, Shin was indicted for receiving at least 2.2 billon won ($2 million) from several companies including Nature Republic over eight years for providing business favors connected to Lotte’s duty-free shops and department stores. She was found guilty and sentenced to three years in prison, but an appeals court reduced the sentence to two years after clearing some charges. The high court said that because money had been transferred to her son’s company, it was not part of the bribes Shin took. But the top court today said that money should be treated as bribes that she took, and ordered a retrial of the case....
