Microsoft sues US government over secrecy orders related to data requests

( April 14, 2016, 18:35 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Microsoft has filed a complaint against the US government seeking to stop secrecy orders that block the company from disclosing to customers when the government requests their data or emails. Microsoft seeks a declaration that the section of the Electronic Communications Privacy Act the government uses to obtain the orders is unconstitutional. Microsoft says that the provision violates the First and Fourth Amendments because it does not require a secrecy order be narrowly tailored to promote a compelling interest and allows the government to search and seize customers’ private information without notifying them, based upon a constitutionally insufficient showing.See document below. ...
