EU data-governance bill for reuse of public-sector data must respect GDPR, regulators say

( March 11, 2021, 13:02 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The European Data Protection Board and the European Data Protection Supervisor have issued a joint opinion on the European Commission's draft Data Governance Act, which aims to create a single market for sharing public-sector data, such as from healthcare and transport. The EDPB, the umbrella group of EU data-protection authorities, and the EDPS, the privacy regulator for the EU institutions, said EU lawmakers should ensure the bill is aligned with the the GDPR and the Open Data Directive. The proposal should be clarified to ensure the reuse of personal data held by public sector bodies is allowed only if provided for in EU or national law.Press release follows.
