Epic Games settlement with FTC, DOJ marks largest US children's privacy, deceptive-practices resolution

By Madeline Hughes ( December 19, 2022, 22:06 GMT | Insight) -- The US Federal Trade Commission and Department of Justice obtained the largest settlement in a child privacy and dark patterns case today for a combined $520 million with Epic Games, the maker of Fortnite. Epic is paying a $275 million penalty to the FTC for allegedly breaking Children's Online Privacy Protection Act rules against gathering information from children under age 13 without parental permission.
