Meta, Spotify, Klarna ask regulators to allow European data to be used in AI training

Signed by companies such as Meta, Spotify and Klarna, as well as research groups and institutions such as the Tony Blair Institute, the letter argues that regulatory decision making has become fragmented and unpredictable in the EU and that interventions by the European data protection authorities have created uncertainty about what kinds of data can be used to train generative AI models. The group says that open-source AI models, as well as products and services built on them, won’t understand or reflect European knowledge, culture or languages.  ...
