Nippon Steel-US Steel deal would hurt workers, US enforcement of trade laws, Senator Brown says

( March 15, 2024, 23:59 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Nippon Steel Corporation's proposed purchase of US Steel "will have drastic consequences for the domestic workforce, our nation’s ability to enforce trade laws, the security of our industrial supply chain, and our national and economic security," US Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio said in a letter to the White House and Commerce Department. The companies failed to notify the United Steelworkers union as required by contract, Brown said, and the deal could allow Nippon Steel to "use its status as a 'domestic producer' to oppose U.S. Steel’s long-standing position in support of these antidumping orders."See letter below....
