Disney, Viacom, plus kids' apps software developers get approval of proposed privacy settlement

( September 24, 2020, 22:31 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A host of companies and developers that make mobile apps for children obtained preliminary approval from a federal judge for a settlement in which the industry has promised to make changes in its practices to protect the privacy of children. While there is no financial payment to consumers, US District Judge James Donato said in granting preliminary approval that "the proposed settlements will provide broad injunctive relief going beyond the apps that were at issue in these cases, and will meaningfully change defendants’ practices in ways that should improve privacy protections for children."  The defendants settling class action claims include Disney, Viacom, InMobi, Tapjoy, Twitter, Kiloo, Sybo, AdColony, Chartboost, Flurry, ironSource US, Vungle, MoPub, Comscore, Full Circle Studies, Unity Technologies SF and Upsight.
