​Bis' acquisition of mining-equipment rival Cougar faces Australian regulatory pushback

( August 7, 2019, 23:25 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Bis Industries' planned acquisition of rival coal-mining services supplier Cougar Mining Group could reduce the number of significant suppliers in the industry from two to one and, as a result, substantially lessen competition, according to the country’s competition regulator. In a statement of issues released today, the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission suggested that the threat of new entry or expansion and the potential for mine operators to self-supply longwall relocation equipment would not significantly constrain a combined Bis-Cougar.
