South Korea welcomes WTO decision on its ban on Japanese seafood imports

( April 12, 2019, 04:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The South Korean government today welcomed a decision by the World Trade Organization that ruled South Korea’s import restrictions on Japanese seafood are in accord with the WTO’s Agreement on the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures. On Thursday, the WTO Appellate Body overturned a decision by a dispute panel last year that determined that South Korea’s import ban, which went into effect in 2011 in the wake of the Fukushima nuclear meltdown, was unfair and discriminatory. South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said in a statement that it will continue to restrict imports of seafood products from eight prefectures in Japan.The government's statement, in Korean, is attached....
