Casio broke competition law by restricting online prices for keyboards, CMA provisionally finds

( April 11, 2019, 09:26 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Electronic-keyboard maker Casio broke competition law by preventing retailers from setting their own prices for its instruments online, the UK’s Competition & Markets Authority has provisionally found. In a Statement of Objections, the CMA said that Casio implemented a policy that required retailers to sell its products at, or above, a minimum price — thus preventing them from offering price discounts. The CMA said the practice, known as resale price maintenance, means customers lose out on lower prices online because, even when they shop around, they find all retailers tend to be selling at around the same price.Statement follows....
