Online service providers get update on UK code for protecting children's data

( August 7, 2019, 12:21 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Providers of online games, social media and other services should set their privacy settings to "high" by default, the UK's top data watchdog said today, in a blog post on a forthcoming code of practice to help protect children online. Information Commissioner Elizabeth Denham acknowledged that the technology, e-gaming and interactive-entertainment industries will face challenges in complying with new requirements for online companies that handle children's personal data. She said the code shouldn't result in "an age-gated Internet", where digital services require proof of age, or prevent children from accessing news content. The Information Commissioner's Office will submit the final version of the code to the UK government before Nov. 23.Statement follows....
