CDT, EFF sue Trump administration to obtain digital advertising records required by social media executive order

( September 22, 2020, 17:41 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Two advocacy organizations are suing the US government to obtain federal agencies’ assessments of how they spend money on digital advertising. The assessments are the result of a May executive order from US President Donald Trump that critics say is an attack against social media platforms. Both organizations, the Center for Democracy and Technology and the Electronic Frontier Foundation, are separately challenging the constitutionality of the order. “We have seen repeatedly that this executive branch attempts to intimidate social media companies into moderating speech according to the President’s whims,” said Avery Gardiner, CDT general counsel, in a statement.
