Buyers of Nissan, Toyota EV models to receive higher Japanese subsidies to help consumers' switch

( March 19, 2024, 11:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Consumers who buy electric cars from Nissan and Toyota will receive the largest amount of subsidies in Japan, while those who buy some overseas brands such as Chinese automaker BYD will receive less, according to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. From April, buyers of Nissan’s Rief and Toyota’s bZ4X will receive subsidies of 850,000 yen ($5,700) per unit, while the buyers of Hyundai’s Kona will receive 450,000 yen, Chinese BYD’s Dolphin 350,000 yen, and Jaguar’s I-Pace 120,000 yen, under the new standards for subsidies, which includes automakers’ efforts to furnish recharging facilities, after-service networks and vehicles’ cybersecurity measures. METI, which has earmarked 129 billion yen to help consumers shift from gasoline vehicles to EVs, said it decided the subsidy amounts according to the automakers’ green efforts and each model’s performances — regardless of the nationalities of the auto manufacturers.The statements, in Japanese, are attached....
