Judge certifies antitrust class for current and former NCAA student athletes

( November 9, 2013, 01:03 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: US District Judge Claudia Wilken in Oakland, Calif. has certified one of two proposed antitrust classes in a lawsuit that claims the National Collegiate Athletic Association violated antitrust laws in excluding current and former Division I football and basketball players from broadcast and merchandising revenue. The order lets the case go forward toward a possible trial next year. Wilken is letting an injunctive class to move forward, but declined to certify a class of current and former athletes seeking damages from the NCAA and its member schools, saying plaintiffs did not identify a feasible way to determine who had been harmed by the alleged conduct.Please see attached document...
