Actual CO2 emissions from new EU passenger vehicles show discrepancies in type-approval data, study finds

( March 18, 2024, 14:51 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Real-world fossil-fuel consumption in 2021, as well as CO2 emissions from diesel and petrol vehicles, were around 20 percent higher than indicated by official values, a European Commission report shows. For plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, the emissions were on average 3.5 times higher than the laboratory values, which confirms that these vehicles are currently not realizing their potential, the regulator said. This is the first report featuring data collected from on-board fuel consumption monitoring devices, which have been mandatory since 2021 in all new cars and small vans that can run on liquid fuels.Statement follows.
