Italian funding to Airport Handling gets EU clearance

( July 5, 2016, 14:18 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The European Commission has cleared a capital injection of 25 million euros to Italian ground-handling operator Airport Handling, after finding that the measure was carried out under normal market terms. The financing therefore involved no state aid, the commission concluded. The regulator needed to verify whether any advantage from the unlawful state aid had been passed on to Airport Handling, because it had taken over parts of rival operator SEA Handling, which according to the commission’s 2012 assessment had received 359 million euros in unlawful state aid. The commission concluded there was no economic continuity between the two companies, so Airport Handling wasn’t obliged to return any illegal monies that had been granted to SEA. Airport Handling is active at Milan Malpensa and Linate.Full statement follows:...
