Australia further amends news-bargaining code in concession to Facebook

( February 23, 2021, 04:57 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Facebook's negotiations with the Australian government over the country's media-bargaining code, designed to make digital platforms pay for the news content they host, has led to further changes to the draft legislation, as Facebook promises to return news content to users' News Feeds in the coming days. Australian Treasurer Josh Frydenberg and Australian Minister for Communications Paul Fletcher have made four additional changes to the draft code, including that a decision over whether a platform will be covered by the new measures must take into account whether that platform has made a significant contribution to the sustainability of the Australian news industry through reaching commercial agreements with news media businesses.
