Naples mass-transit operator might have to pay back illegal aid, EU court says

( July 29, 2019, 11:11 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Azienda Napoletana Mobilita, an operator of mass transit in Naples, might have to pay back illegal Italian support granted to promote employment. Between 1995 and 2001, the company recruited and trained individuals, and therefore benefited from exemptions from social-security contributions. When the European Commission partly blocked the Italian legal provisions, ANM successfully challenged a request to pay back the money. Italian courts said the commission's decision had no direct effect. State aid rules were not applicable because the case was purely local and didn't affect trade between member states.
