Taj Hotels successfully defends iconic brand in India against fraudulent trademark infringement

By Freny Patel ( September 3, 2024, 09:34 GMT | Insight) -- South Asia's largest hospitality brand, the Indian Hotels Company Limited, or IHCL, the parent company of Taj Hotels, secured a permanent injunction against an individual known as Manoj, identified as the owner/managing director of Taj Iconic Membership, in a trademark infringement case. Manoj was found guilty of fraudulent and illegal trade activities by misusing the "TAJ" registered trademark, logos, and copyrighted content from the Taj Hotels' website. The Delhi High Court ruled in favor of IHCL, acknowledging its long-standing reputation, established since the opening of the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai in 1903. The court also awarded IHCL damages of 1 million rupees ($12,500) and costs of 500,000 rupees to compensate for the harm caused by the infringement. South Asia's largest hospitality brand, Taj Hotels, secured a permanent injunction from an Indian court against the misuse of its "TAJ" trademark.  ...
