Messaging services could see EU governments take narrower approach in law on child sexual abuse material (update*)

They are being asked to consider limiting detection orders to known child sexual abuse material rather than both known and unknown material. A discussion document that has been circulated does not, however, touch on the thorny issue of scanning encrypted messages.Private messaging services including Meta Platforms' WhatsApp and Signal could see a narrower obligation to detect child sexual abuse material under a fresh attempt to get EU governments to agree their position on a draft law to weed out such content, known as CSAM....
