Japan's regional electric power companies' data management reports show security improvements, privacy commission says

( March 6, 2024, 08:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Data security reports submitted by Japan's regional power companies following breaches involving their retail and power transmission divisions improperly sharing customer data, showed a degree of improvements in the companies' data protection measures, the Personal Information Protection Commission said. The privacy regulator reported in a separate announcement that Japan's Agency for Natural Resources and Energy, which also received an administrative guidance over the lax management of its renewable energy management database that allowed power companies to inappropriately access data, has also improved its data security. All 10 of Japan's former regional electrical power monopolies improperly accessed the renewable energy database, and eight were found to have inadequate internal data protection that led to their retail-transmission customer data access.The reports, in Japanese, are attached:...
