Disney lacked ability to control direct infringement by CGI vendor, US judge rules

( August 26, 2024, 18:02 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A December 2023 jury verdict that Disney incurred vicarious liability for the direct infringement by Digital Domain 3.0, or DD3, of Rearden LLC's copyrighted software program was undone by a US judge in granting Disney's renewed motion for judgment as a matter of law.  Although agreeing with Rearden that Disney directly benefited financially from the infringement, the judge said Rearden can't prove Disney had the ability to control DD3.See document below....
